Frequently Asked Questions

Is luxury vinyl plank flooring waterproof?

Every luxury vinyl plank style we carry is built to be 100% waterproof, thanks to rigid WPC and SPC cores that won't swell, warp, or stain from spills and humidity. That makes it a genuine fit for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements. The waterproof rating is listed right on each product page, so you can confirm it on the exact style you're considering.

How much does luxury vinyl plank flooring cost?

Luxury vinyl plank runs from $2.99 to $10.69 per square foot, and every product page shows the per-box (carton) price right alongside the per-square-foot price so you can budget the whole room. Those are the manufacturer's advertised prices (MAP) — as an authorized Shaw dealer shipping straight from the manufacturer in Dalton, GA, we remove the retail showroom overhead on the identical Shaw or COREtec SKU, with the identical manufacturer warranty, so it's the same floor rather than a cheaper version of it. Lower prices may be available — request a quote by email using the 'Email us for today's best price' form on any product page.

What's the difference between WPC and SPC luxury vinyl plank?

Both are rigid, waterproof cores — the difference is feel and structure. WPC (a wood-plastic composite core) is a bit thicker and softer, so it's warmer and quieter underfoot, which many homeowners prefer in living spaces. SPC (a denser stone-plastic composite core) is more rigid, so it stands up to heavy foot traffic and hides minor subfloor imperfections especially well. We stock both, and each product page lists the plank thickness, wear layer, and attached-pad construction so you can match a floor to how the room gets used. If you're torn between two, ordering a sample lets you feel the difference before you commit.

How thick should the wear layer be on luxury vinyl plank?

The wear layer is the clear top coat that resists scratches and scuffs, measured in mils. Across our luxury vinyl plank the most common wear layer is 20 mil — a strong all-around choice for busy family homes and light commercial spaces — with options ranging from 6 up to 30 mil. A 12-mil layer is plenty for a low-traffic bedroom, while entryways, kitchens, and homes with pets or kids benefit from a thicker 20-mil-plus wear layer. Each product page lists the exact wear-layer thickness so you can match it to how the room gets used.

Does luxury vinyl plank need underlayment, and can it go over tile or concrete?

For most of our LVP you won't need to buy separate underlayment — the majority of styles ship with a pad already attached to the plank (often cork or EVA), which adds cushion and quiets the floor. Floating (click-lock) planks install over most existing hard surfaces, including concrete and tile, as long as the subfloor is clean, dry, and reasonably flat. A few styles are glue-down only and have their own subfloor prep, so always check the individual product's installation guide. Ordering a sample is an easy way to confirm the attached-pad construction before you commit.

Should I choose click-lock (floating) or glue-down vinyl plank?

Most of our luxury vinyl plank supports both floating (click-lock) and direct glue-down. Floating is the DIY-friendly route — the planks click together and 'float' over the subfloor with no adhesive, so they go down faster and can be lifted later. Glue-down bonds each plank to the subfloor for an extra-solid feel underfoot, which is often preferred in very large rooms and commercial spaces. Some styles are floating-only or glue-only, so check the product page for the methods each one supports.

Do you offer flooring samples, and how does the credit work?

Order a sample of any style for $5 with shipping included, and the full $5 per sample comes back as credit toward your floor order. Just sign in at checkout with the same email you used to order your samples and the credit applies automatically — there's no promo code, it never expires, and every sample you ordered counts. You can order up to 4 samples per box, and each one is a roughly 6-inch swatch cut from a real production board, so you're holding the actual floor, not a printed card. Samples ship within 1 business day and typically arrive in 3–5 business days.

Do you ship luxury vinyl plank nationwide, and what's your return policy?

We ship luxury vinyl plank nationwide, straight from the manufacturer in Dalton, GA — FloorFreight is a national online store and an authorized Shaw dealer, not a local showroom. Flooring travels by freight, so orders under $1,799 ship at flat rates of $99 for one to two cartons or $199 for three or more, and freight is free once your order reaches $1,799; you'll always see the exact carton and freight totals in your cart before checkout. On returns, orders of 250 square feet or more can be returned unopened within 30 days of delivery with a 25% restocking fee and return freight paid by the customer, while orders under 250 square feet aren't eligible for return — which is exactly why we suggest sampling first.

Luxury vinyl plank vs. laminate — which should I choose?

The biggest difference is water. Luxury vinyl plank is built around a waterproof rigid core, so it shrugs off spills, mopping, humidity, and full bathrooms, whereas most laminate is only water-resistant and can swell if water sits on a seam. Laminate can still be a beautiful, budget-friendly pick for bedrooms and living rooms, but for kitchens, baths, laundry rooms, and basements, waterproof LVP is usually the safer choice. If you're leaning toward luxury vinyl plank, a $5 sample lets you see the exact color and texture in your own light — and the full $5 comes back as credit when you sign in at checkout with the same email you used for samples.
