Best Flooring for Radiant Heated Floors (2026): What Conducts, What Survives
Radiant heat travels up through your floor, so the floor has two jobs at once: conduct heat efficiently and stay flat through years of heating and cooling. Here's what works over in-floor heat, the one material to avoid, and the temperature rule that protects your warranty.

Best Flooring for Basements (Below-Grade) 2026: What Actually Survives

COREtec vs Shaw LVP: Which Should You Buy? (2026)

Frequently Asked Questions
Is luxury vinyl plank waterproof?
Yes. LVP is 100% waterproof, making it perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements. Spills and moisture won't damage the floor.
What does 'wear layer' mean?
The wear layer is a transparent protective coating on top of the plank. Thicker wear layers (20+ mil) resist scratches, dents, and fading better. We recommend 20 mil for residential use and 28+ mil for high-traffic areas.
Can I install LVP myself?
Most LVP uses a click-lock floating installation that's very DIY-friendly. No glue, no nails — planks snap together and float over your subfloor. Professional installation is recommended for large areas.
How does LVP compare to hardwood?
LVP is waterproof, more affordable, and easier to install than hardwood. Modern LVP has incredibly realistic wood textures. Hardwood adds more resale value and can be refinished, but isn't suitable for wet areas.
How long does LVP flooring last?
Quality LVP with a 20+ mil wear layer can last 20-30 years with normal residential use. Shaw and COREtec products come with lifetime residential warranties.
