COREtec vs. Lifeproof: Lifeproof is Home Depot's house brand, and it isn't one we carry, so we'll speak for the brand we know. We carry COREtec's Originals, Pro and Tile collections, and every style has its pad already attached.
COREtec vs. Shaw LVP: Both are Shaw Industries brands. The Shaw luxury vinyl we carry comes in wear layers from 6 to 30 mil, and the COREtec we carry in wear layers from 12 to 30 mil. Every style from either brand has its pad attached. COREtec describes its Originals line as thicker WPC that is softer, warmer and quieter underfoot, and its Pro line as compact, dent-resistant SPC for busy homes and high-traffic commercial spaces. Each product page lists that style's price, wear layer and warranty.
COREtec vs. Standard LVP: Standard luxury vinyl plank uses a flexible PVC core. COREtec's cores are rigid WPC and SPC, and its residential warranty says the floor will not swell, cup or crack from everyday spills, normal cleaning or normal subfloor moisture. It still needs room to move: COREtec's installation guide requires a 1/4" expansion space around the room, and notes that heat from direct sunlight can cause thermal expansion.

Who makes COREtec flooring?
Shaw Industries. COREtec is one of Shaw's brands. It was created by USFloors, which by COREtec's own account succeeded in building luxury vinyl around a waterproof core in 2012, and Shaw bought USFloors in 2016. COREtec's residential warranty is issued by Shaw Industries, Inc. Shaw's product data lists the country of origin for every COREtec style we carry simply as "Imported," and your order ships from Shaw's facilities in Dalton, Georgia. The original COREtec product line is still sold today under the Originals collection.
What's the difference between COREtec Originals, Pro, and Premium?
Originals and Pro are COREtec's two plank families, and Premium is a tier inside each of them rather than a third family: both come in Classics, Enhanced and Premium. What sets the two families apart is the core. Every Originals floor has a WPC (wood-plastic composite) core, runs 6.5mm to 19mm thick with a 12 to 30 mil wear layer, and costs $5.39 to $10.69 per square foot. Every Pro floor has an SPC (solid polymer) core, runs 5mm to 6mm thick with a 20 mil wear layer, and costs $4.09 to $6.29. In the Pro family, Pro Classics is a single floor, a 7" × 48" plank at $4.09. Pro Enhanced is two floors at $4.79: Pro Enhanced VV491, a 9" × 73" plank, and Pro Plus Enhanced Planks, a 7" × 48" one. Pro Premium is two floors as well: Pro Plus Enhanced HD 9", a 9" × 72" plank at $5.39, and Pro Premium VV800, a 7" × 48" plank at $6.29 that is the thickest Pro floor, at 6mm. In the Originals family, Originals Premium runs from $8.19 to $10.69 and includes Originals Premium CR500, 19mm (3/4") thick, and Originals Premium VV662, a 30 mil, 9"-wide plank in lengths up to 82".
Is COREtec flooring waterproof?
Yes — 100% waterproof on every COREtec style. The core is rigid WPC (wood-plastic composite) or SPC (solid polymer core), depending on the floor, and COREtec's residential warranty says the floor will not swell, cup or crack from normal cleaning, everyday household spills or normal subfloor moisture. It does not cover flooding or standing water from a leak. COREtec's installation guides approve a floating installation on, above or below grade; they require basements to be dry, and in wet areas such as bathrooms they say to caulk the perimeter of the floor with a flexible silicone caulk.
Does COREtec cover pet damage?
Partly, and the split matters. COREtec's Petproof warranty says the floor will resist staining from pet urine, feces, and vomit for as long as you own it. Scratches are the exception: the same warranty excludes surface scratches unless a scratch warranty covers them, and none accompanies these products. For a home with pets, our recommendation is a 20 mil wear layer for most dogs. We'd choose 12 mil for cats or one small, calm dog, and 22 or 30 mil for several dogs or one large high-energy dog. That is our advice, not a manufacturer's, and it promises nothing about how a floor wears. Coverage also requires installation to COREtec's installation guidelines and maintenance to its care recommendations.
Can COREtec be installed over existing flooring?
Yes, in most cases. COREtec is a floating click-lock system and can install over most existing hard surfaces (vinyl, tile, hardwood, concrete) as long as the subfloor is flat and structurally sound. Carpet must be removed first. Every COREtec style we sell has a pad attached, so no separate cushion underlayment is needed.
